Gay has been involved with the Bendigo East Baseball Club for a number of years. Gay started out as a parent when her son began playing, and has had many roles over the years. She is currently the Treasurer and the Registration Secretary. Gay is also involved with our governing body – Bendigo Baseball Association – as Treasurer. Every season Gay puts in hundreds of hours to ensure all our teams can take the field on game day. This includes sending emails and text reminders to all players about training times, game times, fee payments, special events. On top of this Gay manages the Junior teams and ensures that all junior players get a game – even if we as a club do not have enough players. She will pop them into another clubs team so they don’t lose their interest in our great sport. Gay is always promoting our game within the community – she arranges stalls at the Australia Day Event, La Trobe University O Week, and any other opportunity that arises. As a club we run a bbq on home game days and Gay does all the purchasing for this. Gay is the “go to” person for everyone in our club and she actively encourages all our players, managers and spectators to participate in all activities. On social club trips she is our group leader and ensures everyone has a great time whilst remaining safe. To top it all off, she also scores the A Grade game most weeks. Gay is certainly the beating heart of our club and without her we would struggle. I think Gay deserves this award as she puts in more than 100% and devotes her time to make our club the best it can possibly be. Although we acknowledge Gay from within our Club it would be great for her to receive some recognition from further afield.

  • Brendan Aikman says,

"Gay has put in thousands of hours into our club. Without any exaggeration, her efforts have saved the club from folding back when she first started volunteering in an executive capacity. But Gay doesn't do any of it for recognition; in her words, "I love to help out with the club because of the joy it brings to my son and his team mates." Gay is one of a kind."
