EAST COBURG CRICKET CLUB
How many people can claim to have started a cricket club, been named inaugural president, taken on administrative duties as well as playing? How many people can then claim 35 years later to still be the President of that same club and even occasionally step on the playing field? That person is George Georgiou and East Coburg Cricket Club is his club. After starting the club (then one team) with several close friends, East Coburg is now a thriving local club with 4 senior teams and 4 junior teams. George has become a well-known local legend around the Pascoe Vale/Coburg area.
Throughout this time, George has played over 150 games, organised over 150 social events – currently working on a 30th year reunion of club’s first premiership team of 1986/87, produced 116 newsletters, recruited countless players, served thousands of beers all the while holding a fulltime job and even finding time to raise a family. George’s commitment to ensuring that East Coburg stays relevant in an increasingly difficult environment has never wavered and those that show loyalty to the club are treated royally. I cannot think of a more deserving individual.
SAY SOMETHING GREAT ABOUT GEORGE
